Integrated Sexual & Reproductive Health (SRH)& Nutrition Services for Women in Peri-Urban Communities
Supported by Gates Foundation, this initiative is being implemented by Sukarya in Noida, District Gautam Budh Nagar, Uttar Pradesh, to improve access to integrated Sexual & Reproductive Health (SRH) and nutrition services for women living in underserved peri-urban communities.
The project focuses on young and low-parity women, especially newly married women, first-time mothers, pregnant women, and lactating mothers who often face barriers in accessing timely healthcare, family planning services, anemia prevention, and nutrition counselling.
Through monthly outreach health clinics, beneficiaries receive antenatal and postnatal counselling, family planning guidance, anemia screening referrals, maternal nutrition counselling, dietary diversity education, and support for infant and young child feeding practices. High-risk pregnancies and women with moderate or severe anemia are linked with accredited government healthcare facilities for advanced care and follow-up.
Sukarya’s trained Community Health Workers play a key role in mobilizing families, counselling women, engaging husbands and mothers-in-law, and encouraging informed decisions related to reproductive health, birth spacing, and healthy diets. Behaviour Change Communication sessions, youth-friendly IEC materials, community meetings, and digital outreach further help build awareness and positive social norms.
The project aims to improve contraceptive uptake, promote healthier birth spacing, reduce maternal anemia, strengthen nutrition practices, and build stronger linkages between communities and public health systems—creating a sustainable and scalable urban model for women’s health and well-being.
