Sukarya Swasthya Kendras: Bringing Basic Healthcare Within Reach

Established in 2005 within Sukarya’s office premises, the Swasthya Kendra aims to provide accessible and affordable healthcare to underserved populations, particularly migrants and construction workers living in Saraswati Kunj and nearby slums of Gurugram.

The centre’s healthcare team includes a qualified MBBS doctor, a lab technician, and a medicine dispenser. It is supported by a robust community outreach programme led by a community health worker who conducts home visits to raise awareness about essential health topics such as nutrition, hygiene, and sanitation.

Services Offered

  • Weekly OPD Services: A physician visits the centre every Thursday for four hours to provide check-ups and distribute free medicines.
  • Comprehensive Healthcare: Services include diagnosis and treatment by a female MBBS doctor, antenatal and postnatal care, pregnancy check-ups, medicine distribution, and basic lab tests such as haemoglobin (HB), blood pressure, blood sugar, and measurements of height and weight.
  • Preventive Healthcare: The centre conducts regular group sessions, community awareness meetings, home visits, and follow-ups to address personal hygiene, nutrition, and sanitation practices.
  • Mother and Child Health Days: Celebrated monthly in partnership with government health departments and ICDS, these events offer integrated services under one roof.
  • Physiotherapy Services: Since August 2005, a fully functional physiotherapy centre in Sushant Lok (E-block, Gurugram) has provided preventive and curative therapies for muscular, skeletal, and neurological conditions.

Outreach Strategy

  • A dedicated community health worker visits households to educate residents on basic health and hygiene practices.
  • The centre collaborates with Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs) to organise monthly MCH (Mother and Child Health) days, bringing critical services to the community.
  • Health camps are regularly organised to provide immunisation, antenatal care, breastfeeding guidance, institutional delivery support, general check-ups, medication, and counselling at a single accessible location.

Sukarya Swasthya Kendras strive to create a healthier and more informed society among the most vulnerable populations through in-centre care and community outreach.
