Adolescent Health & Well-being Programme

Sukarya is implementing Adolescent Health Programme to improve the health, confidence, and well-being of young people, especially adolescent girls, in underserved rural and urban communities and government schools. The programme focuses on adolescents aged 10–19 years and promotes informed choices, healthy behaviours, and stronger support systems.

A key initiative under this programme is the Adolescent Health SBCC Project being implemented in villages of Tijara Block, Khairthal-Tijara District, Rajasthan. Through Social and Behaviour Change Communication (SBCC), the project addresses critical issues such as nutrition, anemia prevention, menstrual hygiene, mental well-being, sexual and reproductive health awareness, hygiene practices, and prevention of early marriage and early pregnancy.

The project is delivered through school sessions, community sessions, community meetings, adolescent health clubs, peer educators, trained facilitators, and engagement with parents, teachers, and community leaders. Community Health Workers and teachers receive capacity-building support to guide adolescents effectively. Awareness campaigns, counselling, leadership development activities, health camps, screenings, and referrals to adolescent-friendly health services further strengthen the initiative.

Regular monitoring, surveys, and focus group discussions help track progress and improve outcomes. By creating informed adolescents, supportive families, and responsive communities, the programme aims to build a healthier, safer, and more empowered generation while developing scalable models for adolescent well-being.

Sukarya is proud to partner with the University of Washington’s Center of Integrated Health of Women, Adolescents and Children, under the Global Innovation Fund. Together, we are building a robust data capture system—an initiative that enhances the quality of our adolescent health programs and lays the foundation for future global grants.
